Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Shotcrete Operator in the underground mine. The Shotcrete Operator will be a part of the mining team, responsible for operating the shotcrete unit and spraying shotcrete in the designated areas of the mine and also work with the construction team.
Shotcrete Operators will be required to work within the mine teams and with other teams such as mining operation, maintenance and technical services.
Shotcrete Operators should be able to follow instructions, understand a variety of relevant instruction drawings, sheets, work with others, and help ensure that all safety regulations are followed. Only trained and authorised Shotcrete Operators are permitted to operate the shotcrete spraying machines.
Shotcrete Operators also carry out other related duties as directed by the Mine Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operate Shotcrete units to the standards described in the relevant Safe Operating Standards (SOP) including:
Carry out a pre-start check before operating the shotcrete unit.
Carry out a risk assessment in the area prior to shotcreting.
Be able to identify poor or deteriorating ground conditions and determine if the ground is suitable for spraying with shotcrete.
Carry out the duties in line with mine standards, engineering drawing and relevant legislation.
Have the ability to spray shotcrete to a desired thickness and as identified by engineering drawing.
In addition to pre-start checks, perform periodic checks on the machine, carry out small repairs and solve problems in line with training received.
Work with the maintenance team to ensure the machine is serviced and maintained in proper working order.
Report any unsafe activities or actions related to the machine.
Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others.
Complete a shift report for working activities for supervisor and/or the Technical Services department.
Achieve targets as agreed by the mine and technical teams.
Perform other duties as required.
Personal Requirements
Education to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent.
Have a valid driving license and a minimum of 3 years experience in roles that include operation of large equipment.
Have a good understanding of heavy-duty machinery.
Be proficient with hand tools.
Competencies
Ability to understand engineering drawing instruction and to complete shift reports.
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.
