Job Purpose

This is a functional role for a Grader Machine Operator in the Curraghinalt underground mine. The Road Grader operator will be part of the development and production mining team using the grader to maintain the haulage ways and roads to an acceptable standard.  Your working areas may be anywhere within the underground mine and on the surface if required. The Grader operator will be responsible for the safe operation of the machine in their charge.

The grader operator will be required to work within the mining teams and with other teams such as safety and maintenance. Only trained operators authorized by the Mine Manager will be permitted to operate the road grader.

Grader operators may from time to time stop the task they are performing if unsafe conditions are observed, or defaults occur in the machine because of their work activity.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Operate a Grader unit to the standards described in the relevant Safe Operating Standards (SOP) including:

    • Carry out a pre-start check before operating the Grader, including checking blade and mountings for cracks.

    • Be aware of all traffic on the roadways and yield to other equipment as per procedures and communicate area that he’s working on to minimize traffic jam.

    • Make every effort to grade roads allowing the run-off water into the drain.

    • Use suitable gear and good engine revs to suit road gradients and operate underground loader as required to bring aggregates to the relevant road.

    • Grade roads to the specification as described by management, using grading materials where required.

  • The Grader operator shall wear a seat belt and mandatory underground Personal Protective Equipment.

  • The grader operator will work on a shift rotation aligned with mining teams, including day and night shift.

 Personal Requirements:

  • Education to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in roles that include operation of large equipment.

  • Hold a valid driving license.

  • Have a good understanding of heavy-duty machinery.

  • Be proficient with hand tools.

Competencies.

  • Ability to complete work reports.

  • Ability to communicate with team members and supervisors.
