Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Welder in the underground mine. The Welder will be a part of the maintenance department team and collaborate with others within the team and other departments such as mining, technical and safety.
The Welder will perform the duties to design, construct and repair metalwork products that are required as part of the operation. The work will be carried out to acceptable practices in terms of the uses of gases, welding equipment and safety standards while ensuring that the goals and objectives are achieved.
Welders report to the Mechanical Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Understand and interpret drawings for welding design work
Assess the requirements for each task and select appropriate welding equipment and method
Operate welding, cutting, grinding, measurement and associated equipment in the construction of metal units
Repair on mobile and fixed equipment , both in the workshop, milling plant and also in areas of the underground mine site as required, for example on a mobile equipment breakdown in the mine
Test and inspect welded surfaces for structural flaws
Evaluate work to be performed and apply correct procedures and make appropriate safety arrangements before executing tasks.
Prepare risk assessments, where appropriate prior to work starting and ensure appropriate safety controls are put in place
Complete a post work inspection on all work to ensure appropriate safety standards are met and the risk of fire is no longer existing
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring adequate lighting, safe access and proper tools are in place
Perform any other duties required by the Supervisor.

Personal Requirements
Completion of a formal qualification as a Welder or equivalent, in a recognised jurisdiction
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Welder or equivalent
A valid driver’s license
Ability to work independently or a part of a team
Experience working with a variety of welding equipment
Candidates from the following industries including but not limited to construction, quarrying, trucking and farming are all encouraged to apply
Competencies
Ability to complete reports for work completed on a paper and a computer system
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor
