Trainer (mostly expats at the beginning)

Job Purpose

This is a functional role for a Trainer in the underground mine. The Trainer will be a part of the HR and Training department and collaborate with others within the team and also other departments in the delivery of training programmes.

The Trainer will perform the training programmes in line with the requirements of the mine and in line with the trainers’ specialty subject. A range of trainers will be needed for the underground mine, depending on the equipment (Jumbo drill, LH drill, Bolter, LHD, etc.)

Trainers report to the Trainer Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop programmes that include the following:

• Development of overall training objectives in collaboration with management.

• Develop a needs assessment system to analyse the competency level of individual trainees for each of the specific areas of their job role.

• ·Design training modules for the job role, to include ‘hands on’ and classroom training, each of which complements the other.

• ·Plan and implement a training curriculum in line with training budgets and prepare training materials for the trainees.

• Where required assist with the development of safe operating procedures (SOP) and Planned Task Observations (PTO) to ensure that training and the actual job requirements are aligned.

• Develop appropriate examination and testing programmes in each section of the training to ensure that the learnings are embedded.

• Develop post training assessment for short/long-term assessment of effectiveness.

• ·Develop re-training programmes which will provide refresher training, assess and reinforce the learnings of the initial programme.

• Ensure that training is fully aligned with all relevant safety, health and operational requirements of the mine.

• Develop a system whereby a trainee who does not engage fully or who is deemed not to be suitable for the role, is identified.

• Report any unsafe activities or actions related to the training programme.

• Ensure that all training records are filed within an assessable and transparent system.

• Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others.

• Conduct change management processes with respect to reviewing and updating SoP’s & training documentation, in line with new processes or changes in technology.

 Personal Requirements

• Hold a minimum of five years’ experience in the specialty area of training

  • Jumbo drill

  • Bolter

  • Long hole drill

  • LHD operation (remote also)

  • Haul truck operation

  • Shotfirer

• Completion of a formal Trainer qualification (e.g. Train the Trainer) or equivalent.

• A valid driver’s license.

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

 Competencies

• Ability to complete reports for work completed on a paper and a computer system.

• Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.

• Ability to coach team members.
