Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a general equipment operator at the surface operations associated with the mine. The Surface Equipment Operator will be a part of the surface team, responsible for site works and maintenance. Surface Equipment Operators also carry out other related duties as directed by the Surface Foreman. Surface Equipment Operators will be required to work with other teams such as mine, processing, maintenance and technical.
Surface Equipment Operators should be able to follow instructions, work with others, and help ensure that all safety regulations are followed, in a variety of job tasks that may be assigned to them.
Surface Equipment Operators are only permitted to operate the machines for which they have been trained and authorised.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operate a variety of equipment to the standards described in the relevant Safe Operating Standards (SOP) including (loader, articulate truck, dozer, compactor):
Carry out a pre-start check before operating the unit
Carry out a risk assessment in the area prior to starting a task
Make note of any variation from the norm when carrying out any task and reporting to the Foreman during or at the end of shift
Complete an accurate shift report for work activities, when required
Carry out the duties in line with site standards and relevant legislation
In addition to pre-start checks, perform periodic checks on the machine, and if required, carry out small repairs and solve problems in line with training received
Work with the maintenance team to ensure that any machines under their control are serviced and maintained in proper working order
Report hazards and risks in a timely manner and correct them immediately, if possible
Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others
Achieve targets as agreed with the Site Foreman
Perform other duties as required
Personal Requirements
Education to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in roles that include operation of large equipment
Have a good understanding of heavy-duty machinery
Competencies
Ability to understand engineering instruction sheets and to complete shift reports
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor
