Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Short Term Mine Planner to provide mining engineering expertise to the technical services and mining operations group. The role will include the development of short and medium-range plans for mining operations, and include assistance to the Technical Services Manager in budgeting, cost control and contracts administration. The role will engage with other groups within technical services (geology, survey geotechnical, ventilation, etc.) and also with mine operations, maintenance, safety and environmental, in the discharge of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the following:
Provision of short-term mining plans for the operation of the mine.
Ensure that underground mine planning is aligned with the capability of the mining operations teams by continuous engagement and mine visits.
Develop mine planning for short-term mining activities, including forecasting, budgeting and life of mine plans.
Develop mine optimisation scenarios and work with mine operations on a daily basis.
Work with the long-term mine planner in the development and management of the process of ore reserve estimating, based on updated resource estimates.
Co-ordinate technical services and mine operations in regular meetings to ensure that short-term mining plans are being achieved and apply changes, as required.
Utilise planning and scheduling software for optimization of mining planning.
Personal Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering or other related discipline like civil engineering.
More than 2 years experience in underground hard rock mining as a mine planner.
Ability to communicate well with other groups.
Ability to manage stress and make decisions rapidly.
Knowledge and some experience of underground mine planning and design software.
Technical and report writing skills.
Competencies
Ability to complete work reports on both paper and computer-based systems.
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.
Ability to work with 3D and mining software.
