Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Surveyor to provide accurate survey control for all aspects of mining, construction and related aspects of the mine site. The role will engage with other related groups within the company such as mining engineers, geologists, mine operators, maintenance, safety and environment in the discharge of duties.
The Mines Regulations 2016 Northern Ireland requires a surveyor for the duties below.
Surveyor
58.—(1) The mine operator shall ensure that there is appointed a suitably qualified and competent
person as surveyor of the mine at all times during any period when—
(a) mineral is being extracted from the mine, or such extraction is proposed; or
(b) there is significant excavation at the mine, or such excavation is proposed
Duties and Responsibilities
The Mine Surveyor is responsible for the following:
Develop and maintain up-to-date plans and sections of all workings in the mine to a high level of accuracy.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date plan of the ventilation system of the mine (as per Mines Regulations).
Conduct surveys and develop working data for use by mine planners, geotechnical, geology and other groups.
Calculate volumes of materials stored as ore or waste in the mine and on surface.
Provide survey support for mining operations such as direction and gradient control for mining headings, mark-ups for drilling and blasting.
Maintain accurate surface mapping details.
Maintain all survey data, records and documentation on IT systems.
Carry out other survey-related duties, as required.
Personal Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in surveying or related discipline.
More than 5 years of experience in a survey role, preferably with experience in a mining-related role.
Ability to lead a team of junior surveyors and assistants.
Knowledge and experience with survey software packages.
Technical and report writing skills.
Competencies
Ability to complete work reports on both paper and computer-based systems.
Ability to work with surveys and 3D software.
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.
