Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Mechanic Helper in the underground mine. The Mechanic Helper will be a part of the Maintenance department team and collaborate with others within the team and also other departments such as mining, technical and safety.
The primary role of the Mechanic Helper will be to assist the Mechanic in the performance of their duties while carrying out the maintenance practices in terms of the preventive, corrective and modification maintenance in the mine and ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved.
Mechanic Helpers report to the Mechanical Supervisor, but also work under direction of the Mechanic.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Mechanic in diagnosis, maintenance and repair of mobile mining equipment including drill rigs, load haul dump units, bolting rigs, trucks, graders and other heavy equipment.
Carry out duties such as fuelling, lubing, greasing and topping up of all fluids on machines under maintenance
Power wash equipment as required
Ensure maintenance working areas are maintained in a clean and tidy manner
Work with the Mechanic to ensure spare parts are in stock and are managed appropriately
When working alone carry out a risk assessment prior to work starting and ensure appropriate safety controls put in place
Complete a post work inspection of any work assigned to ensure appropriate safety standards are met
When working alone, maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring adequate lighting, safe access and proper tools are in place
Perform any other duties required by the Supervisor or Mechanic.

Personal Requirements
Education to GCSE level or equivalent
A valid driver’s license
Ability to work independently or a part of a team
Motivated to learn new skills in the mining industry
Candidates from all industries are encouraged to apply
Competencies
Ability to complete reports for work completed on a paper and a computer system
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor
