Job Purpose
This is a functional role for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the underground mine and on surface. The Heavy-Duty Mechanic will be a part of the maintenance team and collaborate with others within the team and also other departments such as mining, technical and safety.
The Heavy-Duty Mechanic will perform the proper maintenance practices in terms of the preventive, corrective and modification maintenance in the mine and ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved. He will be following continuous training with equipment suppliers to ensure that quality standard for each equipment if maintain.
Heavy-Duty Mechanics report to the Mechanical supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Diagnose, maintain and repair mobile mining equipment including drill rigs, load haul dump units, bolting rigs, trucks, graders, dozer, compactor and other heavy equipment.
Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance in addition to minor and major mechanical repairs to all mobile underground and surface equipment.
Evaluate work to be performed and apply correct procedures and make appropriate safety arrangements before executing tasks.
As work may be performed in the working area of the mine as part of a breakdown crew, a risk assessment will be undertaken prior to work starting and appropriate safety controls put in place.
Complete a post work inspection on units that have been repaired to ensure appropriate safety standards are met.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring adequate lighting, safe access and proper tools are in place.
Perform any other duties required by the Supervisor.
Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others.
Personal Requirements
Completion of formal qualification as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or equivalent, in a recognised jurisdiction.
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or equivalent.
A valid driver’s license.
Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.
Experience working with mining equipment such as Caterpillar, Volvo, John Deer, Sandvik, Epiroc, Terex, etc. is an advantage.

Ability to complete reports for work completed on a paper and a computer system.
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.
