Department: Mining Operations (Production)

Job Purpose

This is a functional role for a haul truck operator in the underground mine. The haul truck operator will be a part of the development and production mining team, moving ore and waste from development and production areas of the mine, either to tipping points or to stockpiles on surface for construction or underground for back fill. Haul Truck operators also carry out other related duties as directed by the Mine Supervisor and can also be operating underground loader (LHD) from time to time.  

Haul Truck operators will be required to work within the mine teams and with other teams such as safety, maintenance and technical. Only trained and authorised Haul Truck Operators are permitted to operate Haul Trucks. Haul Truck operators may from time to time stop the task they are performing if unsafe conditions are observed as a result of their work activity.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a Haul truck to the standards described in the relevant Safe Operating Standards (SOP) including:

    • Carry out a pre-start check and brake test before operating the truck

    • Work in conjunction with LHD operators for the safe haulage of ore and waste

    • Park in appropriate areas in preparation for loading and for traffic management with other trucks

    • Communicate with the LHD operator before during and on completion of loading to ensure that loading and haulage is carried out safely

    • Ensure the tipping point is safe to offload the truck

    • Observe all transport rules in the mine and on surface

    • Park the truck in the appropriate areas

    • Keep equipment clean, fuel and lube every shift

  • Carry out the duties in line with mine standards and relevant legislation

  • In addition to pre-start checks, perform periodic checks on the machinelike braking system, carry out small repairs and solve problems in line with training received

  • Work with the maintenance team to ensure the machine is serviced and maintained in proper working order

  • Report any unsafe activities or actions related to the Haul Truck Operation

  • Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others

  • Achieve targets as agreed by the mine and technical teams

  • Perform other duties as required

 Personal Requirements

  • Education to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent

  • Have a valid driving licence

  • Minimum of 1years’ experience in roles that include operation of large equipment

  • Have a good understanding of heavy-duty machinery

  • Be proficient with hand tools

 Competencies

  • Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor
