Job Purpose
This is a functional role for an Electrician for both underground and on surface. The Electrician will be a part of the maintenance team and collaborate with others within the team and also other departments such as mining, milling, technical and safety.
The Electrician will perform equipment maintenance, installations of power circuits, substations and distribution boxes within the mine (underground and surface) and manage power supply, in accordance with the relevant specifications.
The Electrician will perform electrical maintenance practices in terms of the preventive, corrective and modification maintenance in the mine, the mill, surface infrastructure and ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved.
Electricians report to the Electrical supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain health, safety and environmental standards in compliance with the systems adopted on the mine.
Install, maintenance, repair, test and troubleshoot fixed electrical equipment or mobile equipment in the underground mine and on related surface installations to ensure compliance with site specific regulations and requirements.
Fixed equipment may include electrical distribution systems, crushers, conveyors, SAG mill, ball mill, pumps systems, ventilation systems, cable installations, etc.
Mobile equipment may include loader, Jumbo, bolter, long hole drill and many more.
Examine, maintain and repair the electric components of electric hydraulic mobile equipment in the workshop and at the working faces.
Assist where required in other electrical related mining activities for which he/she is competent, to ensure the achievement of this team’s objectives with regard to safety, quality, costs and production.
Evaluate work to be performed and apply correct procedures and make appropriate safety arrangements before executing tasks.
Complete a post work inspection on all work carried out to ensure appropriate safety standards are met and the zero energy procedure is always followed.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring adequate lighting, safe access and proper tools are in place.
Promote a healthy and safe environment for yourself and others.
Personal Requirements
Hold a formal Industrial Electrician qualification or equivalent, in a recognised jurisdiction, with the necessary qualification for work on low tension and high-tension systems.
Minimum of 2 years experience as an Electrician or equivalent.
A valid driver’s license.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Candidates from the following industries including but not limited to construction, quarrying, trucking and farming are all encouraged to apply.
Competencies
Ability to complete reports for work completed on paper and computer systems.
Ability to communicate with team members and supervisor.
